Shall Old Housing be Subject to Property Tax?

Taichung Local Tax Bureau indicated that the age of a property is not a factor that would exempt it from property tax nor a standard with which to determine property tax; therefore, except those residential housing with present value less than NTD 100,000 which are exempt from property tax, other houses are subject to such a tax despite of the age of the house.
The Bureau further explained that property tax is levied based on the property’s present value and type of usage, including residential, non-residential/business, and business. The present value is assessed in accordance with the standard price, depreciation rate, and location. Only if the present value of residential housing is less than NTD 10,000 can it be exempt from property tax. As for non-residential housing, whether it is for business, private hospital use, clinic use , free-lancer studio use or a non-profit office, property tax shall be levied regardless of its present value.
