Maple Garden Won Gold in FIABCI

In the 65th FIABCI World Congress held in Luxembourg on May 21, 2014, the Maple Garden, Asia's first large urban sunken green park constructed by Taichung City Government, won Gold Prize. Defeating more than sixty countries participating in the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), the Maple Garden was honored as the Gold Winner of Global Excellence Construction in Public Infrastructure / Amenities Category. It is the third time in three consecutive years that Taichung City has won this “Oscar” award in the construction industry. The rare "Triple Crown" honor has made Taichung City Government shine again and again in the world.

Taichung Mayor Jason Hu, led a delegation to the 65th FIABCI World Congress held in Luxembourg on May 18, 2014. The winners of FIABCI Prix d' Excellence, nicknamed as the Oscar Award in the construction industry, were announced on May 21. Taichung City’s Maple Garden was honored as the Gold Winner of Public Infrastructure / Amenities Category. It is the third time in a row of three years that Taichung City won such honor, following the Fulfillment Amphitheatre in 2011 and the New Taichung City Civic Center in 2012.

To share the honor with his colleagues, Mayor Hu asked the organizers to invite Zhen Guo-jun (曾國鈞, Director-general of Land Administration Bureau) and Mu Gui-xin (沐桂新, Director-general of Urban Development Bureau) on stage. Three of them took over the Gold Prize trophy from Carlo HEIN, President of FIABCI World Summit and then excitedly raised it high into the air, while thousands of participants were clapping their hands to congratulate the success of Taichung City Government. Many of them even came forward to congratulate Mayor Hu for the “three-crown” achievement and took pictures with him.

Using “backfill” technology, the Maple Garden is Asia's first large sunken green park in a city. Covering an area of 28,000 square meters, the Maple Garden serves for many functions, including landscape and ecologic features, performance venues, greenery, and temporary detention pond. It is the largest landscape architecture and a popular tourist attraction in Taichung City. It is also the lungs of Taichung City, helping to reduce the heat island effect greatly.

Many architects and land development groups attending the world conference expressed their admiration toward the Maple Garden and would like to use it as a reference or even a benchmark for their future urban development projects.

The International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) is an official organization under the United Nations. Established in 1948, FTABCI network consists of 65 member countries and more than 120 real-estate group members, representing more than 1.5 million real-property professionals and more than 3,300 real-estate organizations across the world.

The FIABCI holds world conferences indifferent member countries every year. It is the largest international real-estate forum in the world. Its annual meeting brings together the leaders and elites related to urban governance and real estate investment and development from over the world. Its Prix d'Excellence Awards recognizes outstanding architectural works around the world and the award-winning projects become the vision and benchmark of global real estate development. (5/22 * 7)
