Taichung will become the second largest city in Taiwan. It will continue to fight crime in order to construct a livable city

Taichung City has been endeavoring to maintain a low crime rate. Its accomplishments were reflected in objective statistics. From January to June last year and this year, “The 2016 Crime Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population” of Taichung is the lowest among the six capitals. In the upper half and latter half of the last year, “The Evaluation for Full-Scale Anti-Illegal Firearms” and “Enhance Anti-Drug Scheme” topped the six capitals in both periods. Moreover, it is the only municipality among the six capitals to be granted the Outstanding Award for City Government for “2016 Enhanced Anti-Drug Scheme.” The Police Department expressed that according to the objective statistics indicate the crime rate of Taichung is decreasing gradually. It will continue to safeguard the city to make it more livable to encourage more people to move to Taichung.

According to the statistics of the National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior,“The 2016 Crime Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population”indicates that in 2016 there were 294.65 crime cases in every 100 thousand population, being the lowest among the six capitals. When compared with 2015, there was the decrease of 65.62 cases, at the decrease rate of 18.21%. The decrease rate was the highest among the six capitals. In addition, in the first half of 2016, regarding the implementation of “The Evaluation for Full-Scale Anti-Illegal Firearms” and “Enhance Anti-Drug Scheme”, Taichung was evaluated as the first among the six capitals. It topped the list again in the evaluations in the second half of 2016. It was granted the Outstanding Award for City Government by Premier Lin Chuan for “2016 Enhanced Anti-Drug Scheme,” becoming the only city among the six capitals that won the award repeatedly.

On a private Facebook fans page, “Statistics of Daily Life,” it analyzed seven major statistics of seven major crime indicators, including drug, bugalry, rape, robbery, and more between January and March in 2015 announced by the National Police Agency. It uses different color patches to represent different counties and cities, and clearly indicated that the 7 crime indicators of Taichung were at the latter half of the 22 counties and cities. It allows people to witness the low crime rate and stable in public order in Taichung with scientific data. More importantly, it smashed the past stereotype impression that Taichung was high in crime rate.

Viewing from the overall public order, the public order of Taichung from January to June this year had been stable. It scored the lowest in both the “Crimes of Violent Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population” and the “Burglary and larceny Indicator of Every 100 thousand population” among the six capitals. Especially, there were 128.79 cases in the “Crime Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population,” with 23.25 cases less that the same period in the last year at the decrease rate of 15.29%. It also scored the second lowest in the “Violence Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population” and “Fraud Indicator for Every 100 Thousand Population. Overall, it tops the six capitals in public security.

Regarding the number of criminal cases, Taichung is still the second lowest in the offenses known to the police, burglary and larceny cases known to the police, crime cases of violent, and fraud cases. As to other cases, such as drug abuse, armory and offensive weapons, gambling, drunk driving, sex offenses, and more the Police Department is active and positive in their investigations. With “cracking cases as the best prevention” as the foundation, the statistics from January to June show that the crimes cases with no victims were 6,784, occupying 51.66% of the offenses known to the police.

Moreover, in 2016 and 2017, Taichung topped the ranking in the accomplishments on maintaining public security on major festivals in Taiwan. In January this year, after the establishment of Drug Investigation Center, it solved 2,561 drug cases, arrested 2,766 people, and confiscated 562,736.4 grams of drugs in the first half of this year. Comparing with that of the last year, there is the increase of 14% of case solved, and 15% increase in suspects arrested. The quantity of drugs confiscated also grew significantly.

The Police Department pointed out that active prevention can held decrease crime rate. Regarding major crime cases and indicating cases that attract high social concern, it “solves all possible cases and cracks cases promptly” to stop crimes and criminals immediately. In addition, it also regards intelligent police administration as the guideline, it observes the principle of “Science and technology in police work, with dual concern in investigation and prevention.” By establishing the “High-tech Investigation and Prevention Information Integrated Platform,” it enhances public security through multiple channels, and with police-people cooperation, it endeavors to make Taichung more livable and people feel safer and happier.
