Deepen municipal international cooperation – Taichung City Government signed agreement with Boise to become friendship cities

Boise is the capital of Idaho, which performs brilliantly in high-technology, agriculture, and industry. Mayor Lin Chia-lung of Taichung City visited Elaine-Clegg, the Deputy Mayor of Boise on August 15. Both parties signed the agreement of friendship city. They expected to promote cooperation between them. Mayor Lin expressed that the signing of the agreement of friendship city will help promote cooperation between both parties. He expects to learn deeply from the development of Boise, and enhance cooperation in education, high-tech, and more, He also invited Boise to visit 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.

Accompanied by Vincent Chin Hsiang Yao, the Director-General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, Lu Yau-jr, the Director of the Economics Development Department, Taichung City Government, and more, Mayor Lin visited Elain Clegg, the Deputy Mayor of Boise on the 15th. In addition to signing the agreement of friendship city, both parties exchanged widely on the issues of academia-industry cooperation, cultivating international innovative talents, and more.

Mayor Lin expressed that the signing of the agreement of friendship city will be highly contributive in promoting bilateral exchange and cooperation. The overall development of Idaho is highly progressive, worthy of our learning. In the future, both parties can cooperate further in the areas of education, high-technology, investment, and more. Moreover, he believes that Taiwan has ample space in conducting municipal international cooperation. If the six municipalities can cooperate with cities in the US directly, it will be much helpful to Taiwan in diplomatic relations, economic, trade, culture, education, and more.

Mayor Lin also said that Taichung and Boise has already cooperated in various areas, for example the headquarters of the largest international manufacturer in Taiwan – Micron is located in Boise. It has created more than 4000 job opportunities in Taiwan. And the Providence University in Taichung has already signed MOU with Boise State University to cooperate further in student exchange. In addition, Boise is famous for its trees. And Taichung is also a green city. He invited the mayor and deputy mayor of Boise to participate the Taichung World Flora Exposition next year to share the glory together.

Elaine Clegg, the Deputy Mayor expressed that she felt glad to sign the MOU with Taichung because there are many similarities between the two cities, for example the development of smart technology, both cities are livable cities, and more. She expects this cooperation allows them to learn from each other and grow together. They can endeavor to promote bilateral cultural exchange to develop the industry and enhance bilateral friendship.

Boise is the capital of Idaho, as well as the largest city in this state, with promising development in industry, commerce, and high-technology. Albertsons, the second largest supermarket in North America, Micron, HP, and more have set up huge manufacturing plants there. The headquarters of J. R. Simplot Company, the largest foodstuff and produce company in the US, is also located in Boise.

Taichung City Government pointed out that the signing of agreement of friendship city with Boise can promote friendship exchange between the peoples of Taichung City and Boise. It can also promote further exchanges in economic, trade, high-technology, green energy, aerospace industry, agriculture, education, and more between the two cities. It not only deepens the friendship relations between the two cities but also promote bilateral industrial development.
