Taichung City Government set up Taichung Hub in Hui Zhong Building, Taichung City Office Building on Taiwan Boulevard. To improve the content of exhibition, Taichung Hub was renovated into a multimedia interactive space integrated with design and aesthetics, technology and art, industry and tourism. Mayor Lin Chia-lung led the directors of bureaus to visit the construction of Taichung Hub today (January 23). Through a smooth circulation, Mayor Lin visited the four topics one by one and explored the history and vision of Taichung through multimedia interaction and immersive experience. The construction is about to end. Taichung Hub is expected to reopen in late March.

Mayor Lin indicated that “Hub” has the meaning of pivot; that is, citizens or visitors at home or abroad may have preliminary understanding of Taichung and get connected in Taichung Hub. “Here to Connect” is the positioning and image of Taichung City. Cross-domain links are the source of all innovation. Therefore, how to integrate existing resources will be the most important issue.

Mayor Lin also mentioned that good contents required the efforts made by the government, the academia and private groups to convert textual data to digital presentation, allowing citizens to have better understanding of Greater Taichung.

In addition, various approaches are adopted to engage visitors. Augmented reality (AR) is applied to the painted wall of Taichung at a Glance to demonstrate the major historical events in Taichung; in City Collection, light sculptures are set up to demonstrate cultural and historical information on representative buildings in Taichung; Source of Qijiawan Creek demonstrates Dajia Creek and salmons and has pictures of the environment at 360 degrees for downloading.

The Story of Taichung demonstrates Greater Taichung 123 Project, 2018 Taichung World Flora Exhibition, major construction, traffic network, welfare policy, and cultures in Taichung from 16 different angles; in the Past and Present of Taichung, visitors may apply pictures on the wall manually to glance the history and modern times of Taichung; the Dream Maker is a place where visitors may write down or draw their expectations of Taichung and concerns, which will be integrated into childlike images, for reference of future administration.

Taichung Hub is divided into four topics. The Vision Area describes a people-oriented capital reflecting four visions of Taichung City, namely here to connect, regenerated quality, smart innovation, and livable; the History Area demonstrates the 1000-year history of civilization in Taichung and describes the stories about the interactions between the locals and land in each phase; the City Affairs Area demonstrates unique characteristics of contemporary Taichung, including ongoing construction, various cultural assets, outstanding industrial strength, and natural and human resources; the Life Area describes the abundant urban forms and lifestyles in Taichung City, from the coast, countryside, to mountain cities and from old towns to smart cities.
