Mayor Chia-lung Lin visiting Mexico has attracted a lot of attentions, current Mexican Federal Congressman, Ricardo Sheffiel, took flight to Mexico City right away on 22nd, local time, to meet Mayor Lin when he knew the visit of Mayor Lin. They had a lot of interactions and discussions to share their interesting daily lives with each other. Later on, Mayor Lin accepted the special interview conducted by 6 media companies, including the national communication company of Mexico, Notimex and others. He shared the smart city development of Taichung and expected to leverage the event of 2022 World Design Capital to build the image of the city as a whole and bring Taichung to become the international metropolis.

Ricardo Sheffield was the ex-Mayor of Leon, Mexico. He graduated from Harvard University and was Obama’s classmate. He now is the Federal congressman of Mexico. Ricardo Sheffield will participate in the election of Governor of Guanajuato State. Now is the busy election period but he still took some time to fly to visit Mayor Lin this afternoon and concerned about the communications between the City Government and the Mexican representatives for the official visit.

Mayor Lin told Ricardo Sheffield, his objective of this visit is to get the opportunity to hold the event of 2022 World Design Capital and learn from the cities where had the same event before. Then, they chatted a lot closely from their school lives to the career experiences. They shared many interesting things with full of the laughters all the time lively.

Later, Mayor Lin accepted the interview done by the people from Forbes Magazine, MVS Radio, Glocal Magazine, Notimex, the Number 1 newspaper of Mexico City,「El Universal」, and el sol de Mexico etc.

Mexico media have highly recognized Taichung is a city with successful administration construction records. They were curious about how to incorporate the design concepts into the construction and public involvement to get the the opportunity to hold the event of 2022 World Design Capital; also, they would like to learn how Taichung introduced the smart city concepts to make it as the reference of the future development for Mexico City.

Mayor Lin said, the City Government has built Taichung as a smart city and promoted Shuinan smart town with the demonstration area of 「Smart, Innovative, Low carbon」. Meanwhile, the big data were applied to build smart transportation, smart disaster prevention databases which would even valuable for such a big city like Mexico City with more than 10 millions of population to make the citizens live better by introducing the smart city concepts.

He also shared the successful experiences of Taichung on renovations of Luchuan Canal and Liuchuan Canal in addition to transforming the compost area to the green energy ecological park and the first developed rice straw gasification power generation domestically. He emphasized that Taichung is putting efforts on solid construction, i-voting and young congress etc. public involvement, all of the mentioned activities are designed for「People oriented」. We hope to have the opportunity to conduct 2022 World Design Capital to further build up the whole city image of Taichung and lead Taichung to march to the international stage.
