Government Service Quality Award is the only and the highest honor in Taiwan that a government can receive for its service quality. As the largest public service provider, the government should act quickly, correctly and effectively to solve problems for its people. Furthermore, the government should also provide outstanding service that people can count on, meeting people's expectation.
Since the inception of the Government Service Quality Award, thirty agencies in Taichung City Government have won this award. In this year (the fourth term), two agencies of Taichung City Government, Education Bureau and Daya District Office, have won this award again from a fierce competition among the 168 finalists. The only district office to win such a honor, Daya District Office, was highly praised by the adjudicators, because the district used innovative market strategy to promote the local agricultural product, wheat, through Wheat Culture Festival.
Education Bureau of Taichung City Government was awarded for its efforts to establish the Online Reading Platform, which can upload the bibliography, present questions or problems, and confer learning certification. The entire system is a joint effort of 7622 teachers, parents and other volunteers under an annual budget of only NT$60,000. The platform does help students develop reading habits, influencing 382 schools, including those in Taichung City, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu City, Miaoli County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Taitung County, Yilan County, Matsu and even the neighboring South Korea. The platform provides unlimited benefits to the students, touching the hearts of adjudicators and winning this award.
