Precautions for Women Coming Home Late or Taking Taxi

Precautions for Women Coming Home Late:

  1. Park your vehicle at a well-lit place, especially in front of a 24-hour shop or a building stationed with security guards.
  2. Before taking your vehicle, you should look around to inspect whether there are suspicious persons and whether vehicles next to you are normal or not. When approaching your own car, you should look out if there is anything suspicious beneath it. When approaching your own motorbike, you should look out if there is anything suspicious left on or under it.
  3. When taking your vehicle after shopping or after work, you should look around to check if there are any suspicious people and things. If you have any doubt, you should go back to the mall or office and ask the security guard to accompany to pick up your vehicle. It is always worth taking some precautions to avoid a lifetime full of regrets.
  4. Before arriving home, you should check whether you are being tracked. If you have doubt and there is no one at home, you should not go home but go to the 24-hour shop in the neighborhood. You should use the phone there to contact your family or report to the police.
  5. When reaching your own home, you should check whether its appearance is normal or not. If you find doors, windows or locks are destroyed, you should not enter but report to the police immediately.
  6. Check whether there are outsiders peeping at the entrance or the stairwell. Stay vigilant if you find discarded beverage cans or cigarette butts in the vicinity where it is always kept clean.
  7. Avoid going out alone at late night or in the early morning. Do not pass through the dark alleys and the wild and lonely places. Avoid walking against the wall to keep yourself from being assaulted at the turning corners.
  8. Walk on the sidewalk facing the oncoming traffic in a safe and secure condition. That is, walk on the left-hand side.
  9. When walking on the street, you should stay vigilant to those people and vehicles that repeatedly pass by or approach you suddenly. Sexual assault criminals usually search for victims by going back and forth on the street.
  10. Watch out for any vehicle coming back toward you to avoid a fake accident but real sexual assault.
  11. When walking on the sidewalk, you should take the central line. Do not walk too close to the buildings or any suspicious vehicles.
  12. If you often walk home at night after work or after school, you should carry a whistle and place it where you can get it easily (like the buckles of your purse strap or the pockets of your jacket or pants).A whistle is a very good tool to scare and deter an intended perpetrator.
  13. Try not to use a cell phone, a Walkman, or MP3 while walking. Those tools may reduce your attention to passersby and the surrounding environment.
  14. If you feel you are being followed, you should cross the street to confirm it or get rid of it. If you are still being tracked, you should go to a well-lit place with a crowd of people and call your family or friends to accompany you. Do not panic and run back home. That is an act that may reveal your home premise to the criminal(s) and cause subsequent trouble.
  15. If you are sure of being tracked, you should change route, walk in the middle of the road, or move to a well-lit place with large crowds. You can also walk into a lively shop or a place with the police or security guards, press the doorbell of a roadside house for help, or even kick or hit the vehicles parked on roadside to alarm the sirens.
  16. If you are trapped in a dangerous situation in which your life and safety are not yet harmed or threatened, you should shout for help or use a whistle, flashlight, horn, and siren to make noise to scare the intended perpetrator(s). If you are hijacked or controlled, you should try to play tricks and find the right time to get help or escape.

  3. If you feel the driver does not behave himself, you can take counter measures immediately and seek help. (For example, you can seize the steering wheel to cause a fake car accident or force the driver into a mess resulting in an argument between him and other people.)
  4. Upon getting into the taxi, you should memorize information related to the driver, including his company name, license plate number, driver's license number, and his name. As an alternative, you may also ask your friends, family, security personnel, store clerks, police officers, and so onto take down the information.
  5. Do not take meals and drinks offered by the driver or a stranger.
  6. Do not fall asleep on the taxi so as to give the criminal a chance to take advantage of you.

  9. Any police station or liaison station offers taxi calling services for your security.
