Home renters watch out! International home-leasing deceiver have invaded Taiwan.

Some international home-leasing scams commonly seen in the Western countries have secretly appeared on the Taiwanese home-leasing websites. Foreign deceiver upload house photos found on the internet and place advertisement indicating that they lease the houses with prices below market standard. When the victims takes the bait, the deceivers, using the excuse that they are currently living in England, demand that the victims should contract an international real estate agency to show them the house and deal with the paperwork for the renters. They then demand that the victims wire a down payment through Western Union or Money Gram to England; however, this is just to trick money out of the victims.

The 165 Anti-Fraud Information Line reminds renters to be alert upon seeing "landlords are currently abroad", "Western Union", "Money Gram" and other suspicious terms. Seeing the house in person is highly recommended before renting it. To avoid falling victim to scams, renters should demand that the landlord provide home deeds and identification documents and then use the construction serial number and land serial number on the deeds to verify the personal information of the landlords with local Land Administration Departments.
