Taichung new immigrants federation unveiling ceremony to celebrate the Dragon boat festival with the new immigrants

In order to promote all the new immigrants related projects, Chairwoman of parenting reading association Liang Hsieh was encouraged by Social Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Government to call local organizations in Taichung concerning the new immigrants to form the「new immigrants federation」; today (18th) they conducted the unveiling ceremony to start the operation. Mrs. Lin, Wan-ru Liao, said, she hopes the establishment of the new immigrants federation will enhance the resources integration of public departments and non-profit organizations. And based on the spirit of「leader and follower」, the experiences of the new immigrants service will be cascaded down to assist the organizations willing to serve the new immigrants getting stronger.

The unveiling ceremony today has combined with the celebration of Dragon boat festival so the new immigrants families were sent the Vietnamese rice dumplings as gifts to taste. Many people including Mrs. Lin, Wan-ru Liao, Councilor Ching-lung Chen, Professor Chin-tien Peng from China Medical University, Secretariat of Fengyuan District office Hsao-hua Bai and 9 representatives or chairman of 9 new immigrants groups, were there to bless.

Mrs. Lin, Wan-ru Liao, said, the countries in Southern East Asia value the Dragon boat festival very much as Taiwan does so they have the traditional custom of eating rice dumplings as well, i.e. Vietnamese alkaline square dumplings, Cambodian bag dumplings and Philippine long dumplings etc. it’s expected to make the new immigrants feel like belonging to here with the idea of sharing the celebration together. Meanwhile, by forming the new immigrants federation, the voice and needs of the local new immigrants will be heard so we can build a convenient and thorough supporting system to help each other.

The officer of Social Affairs Bureau has indicated, there were 4 district new immigrants family service center and 18 new immigrants community service stations in Taichung. These institutes will provide immediate and localized supportive service programs to the new immigrants to allow the new immigrants to get the required supports and help either for the challenges of family, career or social issues.
