Lin Chia-Lung, Mayor of Taichung City had held the international press conference today (30th) to present to EAOC the application of restoration of the right to continue to host the 2019 East Asian Youth Games. He thought that the harm of the matter may become a permanent impression for the cross-strait relations, which should be started with mutual communication and rational settlement on dispute of "relation between people and people". He had visited Japan, Korea and Mongolia for preparing the Games except for the sending of letters to all member countries and regions of EACO this time. And if Mainland China agreed, he would also went to Beijing. He would not give up any chances for communication.

Mayor Lin stressed, we should make the world hear us by the matter. If we did not speak out or tacitly approved, it would make the wrong be right afterwards. What happened in Taichung would happen in others cities in Taiwan, and even in other countries. We would try hard no matter in application for restoration or in other relief methods. The suppression of Mainland China was unreasonable. Taiwan had the right to speak out. We should band together even thought the Mainland China may be arbitrary, or even thought the situation was difficult to be changed. We should do what we should do.

He said, the cancellation had been for about a week. The young players had not given up, let along us. It also made us more understand that the suppression of Mainland China on Taiwan was omnipresent. It has impeded us in many things in these years. The East Asian Youth Games was not the only one.

Mayor Lin pointed out, the Olympic spirit is to make everyone put away the disputes, and to compete fairly in peaceful means. The cancellation on right of Taichung to host East Asian Youth Games violated the sportsmanship. It was a negative teaching material in sports circle. The object to be judged would be the Mainland China, who suppressed Taiwan. He would like to thank the representatives of Japan for speak out for Taichung in the meeting. And he believed that through the international press conference, there would be more international persons and countries understanding the situation, and giving Taiwan a greater support.

Some media asked Mayor Lin, the success of Universiade in Taipei was because that Mayor Ko Wen-Je said in Shanghai that "the two sides are one family". If the Mainland China asked you to say this, would you accept for the sportsmen?

Mayor Lin said that, he would tell Mainland China that the cross-strait relations should be started from "relation between people and people" to communicate with each other and to settle disputes rationally. And the key point is the mutual relationship. Taiwan hopes to make friends with Mainland China. Taiwan Government also hopes to build the friendly relationship with Beijing Government. This shall be done by both sides. We would continue to work hard, and we expect the opposite side to re-inspect the harm of the event on the two sides.

He also thought that the harm of the event may be the permanent impression on cross-strait relations, and remain in the relations forever. He hoped to rethink through the event to start from himself that who asked whom to promise what? With the interactive mode, there would be everlasting disputes. Mayor Lin gave the example that Trump, President of America, would sit down and discuss with Kim Jong-un, leader of Northern Korea. Is there any deep hatred between both sides? Is it necessary to hurt the sportsmen? Is it necessary to add the barrier that is difficult to span for the next generation of the two sides? He hoped everyone to learn together how to make the mutual relation better.

Also, some media asked Mayor Lin, if Chi Cheng, the honorary general counsel of Taichung East Asian Youth Games, resigned, would it be helpful in success of application?

He said that, Chi Cheng is one of the few athletes that had won the medal in track and field events in Olympics. Hiring her to be as the honorary general counsel of East Asian Youth Games was just like to hire Wu Ching-Kuo, member of International Olympic Committee, as the general counsel, which was based on profession, and was different from the referendum initiated in folk. They should not be confused.

Mayor Lin stressed, the democracy is our rights. If we blamed our compatriot for using the right because of the suppression, it would be endless, for it may be that the system and rights we thought to be used naturally would be distorted. Everyone has dignity and has right to be fairly treated. He wanted to call on people in the country sincerely that we should unite together at this time to be supporter of Taichung City and young athletes.
