Taichung Wenxin Showtime Cinema today (8th) officially opened. Not only is it the first large-scale complex cinema in Nantun District with 16 theaters, but it also combines a complex mall including “cinema,” “entertainment,” “dining,＂and “fashion” and adopts European and splendid design style. The cinema imported film screening equipment, and the cinema environment was created by applying the concept of high-class hotels, all of which is to bring rich and diverse entertaining services. Mayor Chia-Lung Lin was invited to the opening ceremony and acknowledging that Showtime Cinema will help Taichung’s film industry to develop more flourishingly. He also stressed that Taichung City Government would work harder to make Taichung a movie-friendly city.

The opening ceremony of Wenxin Showtime Cinema was exciting today. Mayor Lin, accompanied by Director General of Government Information Office, Guan-Ting Zhuo, and CEO of Taichung Film Development Foundation, Ying-Chih Lin, attended the opening. Other important guests, including Chairman of Showtime Group, Chih-De Liao, Vice Chairman of Showtime Group, Lin Zhan Ming- Ying Liao, General Manager of Showtime Group, Wei-Ming Liao, General Administrator of Real Estate Project in Nan Shan Life Insurance Co., Ltd., Guo-Zhen Fu, General Manager of Disney Pictures, Ming-Ming Fu, General Manager and Board Member of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Wen-Yan Liu, and Director of Universal Studios, Guo-Xiang Guo, also attended the opening ceremony to make it lively.

Mayor Chia-Lung Lin said that Taichung City is actively developing film industry through executing a series of policies and budget. However, the key point is to have enough moviegoers, good movie theaters to attract more audience, and meanwhile, drive a variety of investment. The very first location that Showtime Cinema was built is at Gancheng nearby the train station, which drives both the business and makes the central district thrive. Now the second location is built along the MRT route, which is believed to benefit the development of Taichung’s film industry.

Mayor Lin also marked that Showtime Group cooperates with Nan Shan Life Insurance Co., Ltd. to build the best cinema in Taiwan at important sites along Taichung MRT Green route. The cinema has multiple functions that include entertaining, shopping, and hosting a variety of cultural and art events. During Father’s Day, the cinema invites everyone to come to watch a movie with dads to experience a good and laid-back space together.

Mayor Lin also pointed out that Showtime Cinema presents itself as an up-to-date and high-class cinema, which is believed to be able to drive the development of film industry in Taichung. In the past when he was the Director General of Government Information Office, he had consulted with the Chairman of Showtime Group, Chih-De Liao many times. He is glad that he and Chairman Liao choose to stay in Taichung to continue their career.

For the time being, Taichung City Government has invested NTD$ 3 billion to make Taichung a movie-friendly city. All kinds of construction are proceeding, including the Central Taiwan Film Studio Project in Wufeng and Central Taiwan Film Center and National Manga Museum in Shuinan. Meanwhile, Taichung International Animation Festival is also promoted and provides a variety of filming assistance and grants to attract film-makers and movie-goers to Taichung.

Chairman Liao acknowledged Mayor Lin’s effort after he took office and his endeavor to strengthen the development of Taichung City, understand the needs of the locals, and work hard to make Taichung an international metropolis. The Chairman recognized and agreed with Mayor Lin’s intention to construct and govern Taichung City.

Government Information Office stated that Showtime Cinema is developed through the collaboration between Showtime Group and Nan Shan Life Insurance Co., Ltd. After the opening of Showtime LIVE in front of the train station at east district in 2017, the investing group again sees the development potential of Taichung and invests in creating a good place for entertaining and shopping for Taichung residents. There are 17 theaters at Showtime LIVE Taichung Station and 16 theaters at Wenxin Showtime, and it has become the largest cinema in the Taichung area.

According to Government Information Office, Taichung City houses the second largest population in Taiwan, and its movie box office has been the second largest in Taiwan too. With the opening of Wenxin Showtime Cinema, there are about 13 cinemas with more than 100 theaters that are running in Taichung now. It is expected that Showtime Cinema, with its advantage of having 33 theaters, will introduce more art films to expand audience perspectives. At the same time, Showtime Cinema is welcome to invest in producing films and television shows and shooting films in Taichung to present the beauty of Taichung on the big screen.
