Announced by Taipei Mosque, this year the Eid al-Adha & Service will be on 8/22. Bureau of Labor (BOL), Taichung City reminds employers to consider the culture and religious belief of immigrant labor force and give proper day off upon request.
Every December 10 of Islamic Calendar, the Eid al-Adha, one of the two major holidays of Islam, gathers most Muslims for Mecca pilgrimage. By the sacrifice of cow or sheep, it commemorate the holy day. To welcome this day, Muslims wash to clean themselves early in the morning and head toward the Mosque for service in white taqiyah and new outfit.
Taichung has 102,618 immigrant workers, of which 26,938 are caretakers and domestic helpers. Most of the workers are from Southeast Asia, where Islam is the religious belief. To create respectful employer-employee balance, BOL Director Huang He-ting reminds employers to appreciate the difference of culture and religion, and give proper day off when necessary.
