“Science & Technology in International Cooperation – An Exhibition of Achievement”

From now on until November 11, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is displaying “Science & Technology in International Cooperation – An Exhibition of Achievement” in Taichung at the ground floor of Wenxin Building, Taichung City Hall. The show displays Taiwan’s GIS technology in combination with Satellite Fuwei II cartographic data to support diplomatic countries in preventing natural disaster and land monitor. The exhibition opens daily 8-17 (including weekends and holidays) to public. Mayor Lin Chia-long attended the opening ceremony and invited everyone to see Taiwan’s strength on technology, economy & trades and culture in expanding diplomatic relationship.

“Science & Technology in International Cooperation – An Exhibition of Achievement” begins today (18) at Taichung City Hall. The opening ceremony kicked off by City Mayor is visited by diplomatic countries in the form of tours. Though due to special condition, Taiwan faces numerous challenges in expanding diplomatic relationship, nonetheless through smart diplomacy, Taiwan manages to participate in international communities over technology, economy & trades and culture fields. This is the power of Taiwan.

“Science & Technology in International Cooperation – An Exhibition of Achievement”, hosted by Taichung City Government, MOFA, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Education, opens today (18) at Wenxin Building, City Hall. Grand opening held by Mayor Lin, the event is joined by MOFA Political Deputy Minister Hsu Si-jian, Director Lin Min-cong of Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Development, Deputy Director Yan Bao-yue of Department of Lifetime Education, Director-general Chen Xun-Xiang of National Science and Technology Museum, Legislator Huang Guo-shu, Director Lu Jian-de of Department of Social Welfare, CEO Dong Si-qi of Committee of Taichung International Affairs, 20 representatives, ambassadors, from 16 countries, as well as 90 teachers and students from Huilai Primary School and Shishang Primary School.
The unique situation makes up many challenges for Taiwan, says Mayor Lin, but the strong community of Taiwan, including cooperation between NGOs and local governments on different level of international participation from technology to economy & trades and culture, contributes tremendously. Right now, to exceed the “nation to nation” based relationship, Taiwan must go to “smart diplomacy”, focus on cooperation with private section, display the power of Taiwan.

As per Mayor Lin, Taichung’s population is about to exceed 1.8 million by this month. As the only municipality in central Taiwan, Taichung places importance on international communication throughout the development progress. The small and medium enterprises along the 60km golden valley of Dadu Mountain have solid foundation. With full throttle advancement in information & communication and precision machinery industry, Taichung is developing its own brand through technology based diplomacy.

As the winner of 2018 “IFEA World Festival & Event City Award” and nominee for “Top 30 Asian Cities for Meeting”, “Top 100 City Destinations”, and the most living friendly in Taiwan, Taichung is looking forward to contributing to the world while learning from it. Taichung invites all ambassadors and representatives to visit Flora Expo on November 3.

As per MOFA Political Deputy Minister, the Exhibition in Taipei closed on August 5. Within 6 weeks, the event drew 23 thousand people and successfully displayed the strength and achievement of Taiwan’s technology. With global cooperation, the show in Taichung is believed to draw even more visitors under Mayor Lin’s support.

Deputy Minister further indicated that with the global climate change, Taiwan helps monitor diplomatic countries’ environment with satellite technology, follows the UN sustainable development goals to accomplish the biodiversity. With Mayor Lin’s great support, our diplomacy built over technology and the upcoming Flora Expo will the best stage to let the world see Taiwan’s strength.

According to INGO office, the Exhibition of Achievement in Taichung comes from MOFA’s “Latin American GIS Application Upgrade Program” in 2009. Entrusted to ICDF and NCU, the development of GIS combined with Fuwei II’s cartographic data has applied to Nicaragua and Honduras in preventing natural disaster and land monitor. The program has run well and received recognition from diplomatic countries.

Moreover, local relics from diplomatic countries, the rocket of Fuwei II and the model of Fuwei III, fun interactive games of scientific knowledge, the exhibition gives full achievement of international humanity and technology cooperation, enhances our creativity and energy in promoting technology-based diplomacy.

At the courtyard of Wenxin Building, Taichung City Hall, the exhibition from now on through to November 11, 8:00 to 17:00 daily (including weekends and holidays) opens to public. Visitors may take one game card on the day of visit, a small souvenir is redeemable for collections of passed rounds. Children are welcomed to visit with parents.
