After the events of heavy rain, Taichung now has intermittent rain. Health Bureau of Taichung City Government reminds the general public that water can be easily accumulated inside containers after rain to create a good environment for breeding of vectors. Now it is the peak season of dengue fever transmission and the four important steps, “inspection, keep containers empty, clean up, and brush” to prevent from the prevalence of dengue fever shall be carefully implemented by inspecting the surrounding environment, keeping idled containers empty, clean up waste containers, and brush containers to remove insect and mosquito eggs to avoid breeding of vectors and get rid of threat of Dengue Fever.

Health Bureau pointed out that Breteau Index is important to evaluate the risk of dengue transmission and according to an investigation of vector density in communities, after the last rain wave in the beginning of June, the number of positive communities improved slightly and compared to that of the end of May, positive ratio of level 2 of Breteau Index increased slightly by 12% indicating after rain, the sunny weather indeed contributed to active growth of vectors and containers accumulated with water shall be cleaned up. Bureau of Health will continuously investigate density of dengue vectors to avoid high Breteau index that helps the outbreak of dengue fever.

Director-general of Health Bureau, Liu Tsung-hsueh called for the public to actively inspect both home and work environment to clean up their houses and indoor and outdoor sites easily accumulated with water such as waste tires, aluminum cans, canvas, PE bottles, vases, and base plates of plants.
