The construction of Houli Park area of 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition is progressing smoothly and stably. It aims to displays the “GNP spirits” – Green, Nature, and People there. In this venue, the forest zone is re-constructed from an idle barrack, preserving its original tree ecology. Reusing local resources, water zones and plantation zones are added for educational purposes. As to the horse ranch zone, it is re-shaped from the old ranch by adding Taiwan orchids, bicycles, and horses to it to highlight its regional features and construct a diverse humanistic atmosphere.

The Construction Bureau, Taichung City Government expressed that Houli Forest Park was a barrack built in the 1960s. During its idleness, the trees planted by the army have transformed into a diverse natural ecology in the course of natural evolution. The city government preserves the trees there and conserve its original landscape. In this zone, it is planned to build an “International Garden Exhibition Area” there. Welcome applications from countries worldwide. Integrating with the local landscape of Taiwan, it presents the beauty of horticulture.

In addition, it is planned to build a tree house and a natural symbiosis zone there. Local resources are used to decrease maintenance cost. And disperse detention ponds and rainwater garden will be built instead of digging a huge detention wells to increase the water zones and greenbelts for educational purposes.

The Construction Bureau pointed out that the Horse Ranch Exhibition Area is reshaped from the original space of the ranch to preserve the historical texture as the foundation of Flora Expo. Related facilities of the horse ranch is refurbished for the building of the main body of the Gorgeous Flower Hall. It will be the venue for sponsoring international indoor floral competition. As to the outdoor space, the architectures and landscapes will be integrated. And a huge piece of ecological detention ponds and greens will be constructed with the concept of low-impact design. Providing spaces for exhibitions and performances, it also respects the sustaining development of the environment. It is expected that visitors can travel around in this cultural atmosphere in addition to orchid watching and cycling.

Taichung Flora Exposition will last from November 3, 2018 to April 24, 2019. This great even will preserve precious local assets. In addition to the Houli Ranch Park Area, Waipu Exhibition Zone will become an international agricultural zone; Fengyuan Exhibition Area will become a pastry museum.
