The 2017 Taichung International Animation Festival held the first outdoor screening event combining a program guide on the evening of September 24th at Calligraphy Greenway. The film “My Life as a Courgette”, well received at last year’s festival, was the opening. Over 300 audiences were in attendance. The program guide introduced the audience to the film list, giving them a greater understanding of the pieces. The Information Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that limited tickets for the festival went on sale on the 23rd. Those interested in attending the festival should purchase tickets from the NTCH Ticketing System via the ticket machines at convenience stores and brick and mortar locations.

Last evening’s event drew many families to see “My Life as a Courgette”, Best Picture for Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Oscar nomination for Best Animated Features. Limited edition cushions were provided, and the event was lively.

Lin Yingzhi, the chairman of the TFDF (Taichung Film Development Foundation), stated that this year the Information Bureau of Taichung City Government commissioned the TFDF to plan and hold the Taichung International Animation Festival. Lin hopes that the festival may bring more creativity and depth to animation in the city, giving Taichung a richer and more diverse arts culture.

Chairman Lin mentioned that this year marks the first time the festival has arranged for a family section, entitled “Baby Universe.” It collects awarded kid movies shown at the festivals from around the world. Children and the young at heart are invited to take part. The festival’s “Contemporary Experimental Animation” and “Spotlight on Asia” sections are designed for adults interested in animation. These films expand the horizons of their audiences and put their fingers on the pulse of creative animation from around Asia.

The TFDF stated that they would show “The Triplets of Belleville,” Oscar Nomination for Best Animated Feature, at 6 p.m. on October 1st by the main gate of Fengjia University. On October 6th, they will be showing “Zootopia” at the Shuili Building Plaza at 6 p.m. In addition to the screening of animated films, the event will also contain the program guide. All animation lovers are invited.

The Taichung International Animation Festival will take place between October 13th and 17th at the Taichung Showtime Cinema. Tickets are currently available for preorder at Arts Ticket systems around the country. This year’s festival features 143 select animated films. Tickets are available for purchase through the NTCH Ticketing System and physical stores.
