About the performance
In 2005 CFMW presented the Eastern Instrumental Theater I – Ambush, which was the debut of the “Eastern Instrumental Theater” composed in its 15th anniversary. It was the first time for it to fuse Chinese music with theatrical elements. Directed by Billy Zhang, the former head dancer at Cirque du Soleil, it fused with the elements of environment theater, including images, performance, theatre, dance, fire dance, flames of war, and flowers into one. Gathering Chai Found Music Workshop’s Eastern Instrumental Theater, Taichung Black Angle Crew, Wugi Troupe, they fused with the ultimate fire dance of Coming True Fire Group. With the natural environment of the canopy of the Fulfillment Amphitheater as the curtain, and the grassland as mat, they created a new visual, aural, and sensual aesthetic to explore the dialog and murmur in time and space of the ancient and modern, and collage it with contemporary atmosphere. With the assistance and collaboration of technology and skills, they re-presented the roaring of the fire of war, and the laments of desolation. In this occasion, they are going to fuse the image of Yuji with 2017 Taichung Arts Festival to present “Ambush” in front of Taichung’s audiences.
