Filipina maids (or "amahs") are widely used by foreign and local residents, and are usually employed full-time as live-in maids. However, some residents will share an amah with another family, or arrange for an amah to work a few hours a week. Filipina amahs have a reputation for being good with children and usually speak good English, although their Chinese speaking skills may not be very fluent. It is advisable to hire a legal Filipina amah, as employers caught with illegal foreign maids can be subject to fines. Salaries for full-time Filipina maids start at NT$15,840/month and range up to over NT$20,000/month.
