The western corridor of Taiwan is home to many world-renowned photonics enterprises. Over 80% of all photonics companies are concentrated in the Taichung-Changhua region in particular. “Taiwan Photonics Valley” was created by Taichung City through the integration of 23 industrial and industry parks including the four main Central Taiwan Science Park campuses, Taichung City Precision Machinery Park, Changhua Coastal Industrial Park and Nangang Industrial Park.
In January 2015, Taichung City established the “Taiwan Photonics Valley Development Association” as the first step in industry integration. The city government also lobbied for central government funding of the “Taiwan Photonics Valley – Taichung Photonics Industry Cluster Development Plan.” On September 22, the “Taiwan Photonics International Networking @ Taichung” was held to provide local and foreign industry, government, education and research experts with a platform for communication. The goal is to transform Taichung into the best industry cluster for cross-disciplinary integration, application and innovation in photonics.
