Mayor Lin Chia-long and other 35 global city mayors visited Mobileye headquarter in Jerusalem, Israel. Mayor Lin indicated that auto-pilot is the future trend of transportation system, and Taichung Shuinan Smart City is the selected field to run the demonstration of auto-pilot. As the ITRI developed mid-bus is expected to join the service this year, the new milestone for Taichung Smart Transportation is declared.

After the presentation from Lior Sethon, the deputy general manager of Mobileye’s Aftermarket Division, and Eliav Rodman, the Director of Marketing, Mayor Lin visited with other mayors the workshop of auto-pilot equipment, getting a more comprehensive look of the smart transportation revolution brought by auto-pilot.

Mayor Lin Indicated that auto-pilot is the future trend of transportation system, and Shuinan Smart City, as the designated field for auto-pilot, is the base for all data computing technology and the synthesis and application of software and equipment, from smart equipment, lance sensor, to data transmission and the establishment of identification system, to prepare auto-pilot technology.

Taichung government is seeking for industrial collaboration: EASYMILE and NAVYA from France, BMW from Germany. After the completion of assistive system which enhances automobile driving safety, in the future the collection and input of local traffic data and relax of Taiwan laws will prepare auto-pilot.

Filed for the application of auto-pilot to Industrial Development Bureau, auto-driving mid-bus developed by ITRI to be on the road at Shuinan Smart City this year and as the shuttle bus of Taichung Floral Expo, the breakthrough not only actualizes Shuinan Smart City as the auto-pilot demo field, but also creates solid foundation for Taichung smart transportation.

In addition, to benefit visually impaired or legally blind people, the city government is moving onto artificial visual technology. By learning how the cutting edge invention assists the visually impaired, city government is to provide reference for the integration of assistive technology resource as well as the benefit and welfare policies for physical and mental disabilities. OrCam received Intel’s USD$ 15 million investment on their smart glasses in 2014.

As per city government, the auto-drive mid-bus built by Lily of Silicon Valley, Wistron, iAuto, Mobiletron and ITRI is expected to be on the road in Taichung Shuinan Smart City this year.

Created in Israel in 1999, Mobileye mainly develops smart visual system analysis and data process. ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist Systems) is where it started, with the current auto-pilot system, the global leading company of auto-pilot is dedicated to ADAS, smart visual assistive technology, auto-pilot development, etc. in August, 2017 it is purchased by and is now a subsidiary of Intel.

Currently there are 15 million cars equipped with ADAS which has the most advanced anti-collision warning system in the world. With smart video visual technology it can verify lane drifting, in-time traffic, hazardous road conditions, etc. More than 27 OEM companies have applied the technology. The auto-pilot automobile under the project of the company, BMW and Intel is expected to be on the road by 2021.
