Taichung Municipal Library Xixi Division is located on the green park lane at the western side of Fazi River. It’s the first library with the fused features of architecture and aesthetics in Taichung. It looks like a book and there is the「CC architecture Hall」 at the second floor. Today (29th) was the opening day of the library with many parents bringing their children to visit and participate in the activities lively. Mayor Chia-lung Lin said, the structure of Xixi library is an open book and the indoor space can reflect the human oriented spirit for children, teenagers and senior people to enjoy the cultural food of knowledge in Taichung as the Cultural City. It will become a new cultural landmark of Taichung.

The library with Mayor Lin, Director of Cultural Affairs Bureau Chi-chen Wang, Director of Urban Development Bureau Juin-jay Wang, Curator of Taichung Municipal Library Hsiao-ling Chang, President of Great Taichung Architect Association Ming-yu Cheng and Executive of Xitun District Guo-yu Ho participating in and cutting the ribbon has formally open today. They also unveiled for the「CC Hall of architecture」with the features of architecture and aesthetics of living at the second floor. There were many paintings created by 60 children. The representatives from the offices of City Councilor, Hsin-huei Huang, Legislator Wan-ken Chang-Liao and City Councilor Hsu-hua Chen were there for witnesses.

「Xixi area has finally got the library established. And it’s amazing！」Mayor Lin said, Xixi library looks like a pleasant open book. You can see through the transparent indoor space and watch the High Speed Rail passing by and listen to the flow of Fazi River. Itself is a beautiful artwork of scenery and has won the copper award of green architecture candidate certificate. It will become a new cultural landmark of Taichung.

He recalled that Xixi library was started right before the day of his inauguration and he found the budget for this construction was only NT$60 million. It’s impossible to get everything ready for the library with the limited budget. Therefore, he decided to increase the additional NT$30 million of budget for it. However, with the sponsorships from Taichung Great Architect Association and many architects, Xixi library is formed with the commitment to become the creative and learning space for children.

Mayor Lin has indicated, the libraries were only available in urban area but scarcely none in the remote area. In order to minimize the variance between cities and countries, the City Government has quickly and massively built up many libraries in every District recently in addition to the Municipal General Library「Taichung Green Beauty Library」 located in Shuinan District. Ko-yun Lee library at the other side of Fazi River will be completed and open in September.

Besides, Taichung City is aggressively applying for the 2022 World Capital Design so the aesthetics of design would be the critical element of architecture. Xixi library is the good starting point of the collaboration with Taichung Great Architect Association on the living of architecture and aesthetics.

The officer of Cultural Affairs Bureau indicated, Xixi library is a building with three stories above the ground and the total area of the stories are 587 pings. It’s kicked off in December of 2015 and finished by the end of 2017. The test-run of the library was initiated on 27th March this year. It’s the first library with the fused features of architecture and aesthetics in Taichung. It provides about 100 thousand of books and 150 journals with 330 seats and all kinds of architecture related activities which will accompany the people to swim in the book ocean surrounded by green plants so people can feel the new aesthetics of the urban architectures.

The indoor space of the library is designed by different aged and group. The 1st floor for toddlers and children reading area , newspapers and journals, High school and the elderly reading area etc., also, the automatic book borrowing machine is setting on the same floor as well. The 2nd floor is the general reading area with open book shelves and the first developed「CC architecture Hall」to make the library become the first library with the fused concept of architecture and aesthetics in Taichung. The 3rd floor of the library is the teenager exclusive reading space with teenager area, video reference area, multiple functional activity rooms, group area, comprehensive learning rooms, WiFi internet and computer index area etc.

The officer of Cultural Affairs Bureau mentioned, in order to celebrate the opening of Xixi library, there are a series of activities planned, including the interesting storytelling performances for kids and the seminars of 「Hip-pop talk of architectures」for the teenagers on the 1st floor; 3D printing exhibitions in the area for aesthetics of architecture living and Taichung first developed 「Live show library」supported by architects which would have the architect to answer all the architecture related questions of the general public on the second floor. On the 3rd floor, there is the first introduced old books exhibition of「Four books of architecture」in Taiwan and the artworks of 「Flying 4」created and donated by the Artist of pottery, Wen-ni Yang. The citizens are highly welcome to join in the activities.
