Teaming up with the Cloud Innovation School of Feng Chia University, the Taichung Industrial Senior High School, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Education Bureau of the Taichung City Government organized the "2020 School Year Cloud Talent Cultivation Program." Several days ago, the program team including eight contestants on behalf of Taichung City participated in "Competitions in Central Taiwan of the 51st National Skills Competition-Cloud Computing Skills Competition" and won five top places and one award for work of excellence. With these proud achievements, these contestants will go to the national competition arena with the aim to represent Taiwan in international competitions.

According to the Bureau, the regional competitions for the 51st National Skills Competition-Cloud Computing Skills Competition were launched on April 23rd in Northern and Central Taiwan. By using the AWS GameDay platform, contestants were challenged to demonstrate skills to deploy cloud structure, manage system network, design for high-performance scalability and automatic security monitoring. Contest representatives from Taichung are those cultivated in the cloud service talent training program. They were from both senior and vocational high schools, for example, Wang Guan-Yung in Grade 10 from Mingdao High School and Lai Yi-Chun in Grade 11 from Extension Program of Taichung Industrial Senior High School. They formed their social group with peer students to learn and share together.

When sharing his winning of first place, Chen Ting-Wei, an 11th grader, from the Department of Information of Taichung Industrial Senior High School, said he contacted cloud services after joining the talent training program about one year ago. He learned how to quickly and accurately deploy cloud structure as well as continuous optimization and modification. In the last hour of the competition, he was left behind by other contestants, yet he did not give up. Finally, he completed his last optimization adjustment and won first place with a high score. He was thankful for his instructors and peer students as well as the best support of the Education Bureau with resource inputs during his exploration of cloud services learning.
The Bureau said the Program was launched in School Year 2020 by providing several sessions of basic cloud services and structural training to develop both senior and vocational high school students' knowledge of cloud services and platform utilization skills. Meanwhile the AWS high school social club was formed to allow students to make use of learning cloud applications of Feng Chia University during their self-study and exploration time.

The Bureau pointed out that from March 30th this year, the Taichung City Government officially worked with AWS to make prior preparation for information education at the high school level. Based on the concept of "Smart Taichung," both sides jointly explored unlimited possibilities for cloud talent cultivation. Chen Ting-Wei, the first prize winner, from Taichung Industrial Senior High School was the best example for the spirit of never giving up. We wish him to advance to international competitions.
