From October 1st, 2019, when a violator pays traffic fines with a credit card at the counter, he/she shall also pay a handling fee according to the bracket of the surcharge. If a payment made with a credit card has an amount lower than NT1,000, the violator only needs to pay a handling fee of NT$2; when the amount exceeds NT$100,000, the maximum handling fee of NT$35 will be charged.
According to the Traffic Adjudication Office, since April, 2018 the Office has joined the "Credit Card Payment Platform for Public Agencies" and violators are able to pay traffic fines at a counter with a credit card. In July of the same year, four domestic mobile payment methods (ApplePay, Google(Android) Pay, Samsung Pay、Taiwan Pay) are made available for traffic fine payments via a smart phone that contains credit card information. These convenient, safe and considerate services have been highly accepted and recognized by the public. In the initial stage, handling fees on the "Credit Card Payment Platform for Public Agencies" were absorbed by card issuing banks but that benefit ended at the end of September, 2019. In order to continuously provide services to handle traffic fine payments at the counter with a credit card, from October 1st, a handling fee according to a specific percentage of the surcharge will be additionally collected. Violators can choose to make the traffic fine payment via cash or a credit card.
