The 55th National Skills Competition recently concluded, with Taichung City delivering an outstanding performance across 69 competition categories—securing 5 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals, along with 8 fourth-place finishes, 12 fifth-place finishes, and 13 honorable mentions. In total, 56 participants from Taichung received awards, reflecting the city's remarkable achievements and underscoring the strength of its technical and vocational education. Notably, 23 outstanding students who earned gold, silver, or bronze medals have qualified for the national team selection process. If selected, they will represent Taiwan in the upcoming WorldSkills Asia Competition in Taipei later this year, and the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai next year—bringing honor to the country!
Director Chiang Wei-min of the Education Bureau noted that the city government’s technical and vocational education initiatives have received the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent” rating for eight consecutive years. The remarkable achievements in this year’s competition are not only the result of the long-term dedication of teachers and students, but also serve as the strongest testament to the quality development of technical and vocational education in Taichung. The Education Bureau will continue to invest resources to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, incorporate digital technologies into teaching, and link educational programs with industry resources to ensure that vocational education remains closely aligned with current industrial trends. According to the Education Bureau, Taichung Municipal Taichung Industrial High School delivered an exceptional performance—winning 3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals, along with 3 fourth-place finishes, 5 fifth-place finishes, and 2 honorable mentions. The school demonstrated overwhelming strength in the “Robot System Integration” category, sweeping the top four places and highlighting its solid teaching foundation in intelligent machinery and automation. In addition, Mingdao High School earned a gold medal in the “Western Cuisine” category for their students’ culinary skills. Several other schools also brought home honors in various competition categories, including Dajia Industrial High School, Dongshi Industrial High School, Shengang Industrial High School, Mingder High School, Chiao Tai High School, Ling Tung High School, Xin Nan Junior High School, Dadu Junior High School, Hou Zong Senior High School, Da Ming High School, and Chong Lun Junior High School—further adding to Taichung City’s growing list of achievements.
The Education Bureau further noted that Taichung is situated in the “Golden Valley of Precision Machinery.” To meet the talent development needs of local industries, the bureau has established several specialized technical teaching centers: in 2021, the Taichung City Electric Vehicle Technology Teaching Center at Dongshi Industrial High School for the mountain region; in 2022, the Taichung City Smart Manufacturing Technology Teaching Center at Taichung Industrial High School for the Tun region; and in 2025, the Taichung City Smart Automation Technology Teaching Center at Shalu Industrial High School for the coastal region. The outstanding results achieved in this year’s “Robot System Integration” category clearly demonstrate the city’s long-term commitment and solid foundation in smart manufacturing. Through the continuous efforts of these teaching centers and related vocational high schools, Taichung has laid a strong foundation for becoming a model city in technical and vocational education, while actively promoting and nurturing skilled talent.
