The fire organization in each county and city was integrated into a “Fire Station” on August 14^th, 1947 which was attached to the Police Station and subjected to the supervision and guidance of the Security Section; the fire service of each county and city was transferred from the Security Section of Police Station to the Fire Station.

In order to strengthen the fire system, Ministry of the Interior established National Fire Agency in 1985, and thus police and fire are formally separated. Fire Bureau of Taichung County Government was established on December 12th, 1998 and Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government was established at January 17th, 1999. In accordance with the merger and upgrade of Taichung County and Taichung City, the station was integrated into Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government on December 25th, 2010. Currently the station is equipped with seven sections, four offices and a center plus eight emergency and rescue corps, a special rescue corps, forty seven branches and a medical service team, committing to the responsibility of protecting citizen’s life and their property safety.

With the growth of population and the rapid change and development of urban condition and environment, there are also more disaster types and threatens that the city is confronting with. In order to correspond with the public demand for more safety, in addition to expand the existing volunteer fire-fighting organizations and establish Volunteer Fire-fighting Team, Woman Fire-fighting Guidance Team, Phoenix Volunteer Team, Neighborhood Rescue Team and Civilian Emergency Rescue Team, etc. are also established. The bureau also helped enthusiastic citizens in the city to establish a variety of civilian rescue groups. With the involvement of these volunteers, the ambulance and rescue works of the city is filled with endless resources.

As the saying goes, “the turning point hides in the crisis”. After Taichung County and Taichung City were seriously suffered from significant disasters like the 921 Earthquake, Typhoon Toraji, the 72 Flood and Typhoon Kalmaegi, etc., we believe that in order to transfer a crisis to a turning point, we must enhance the effectiveness of the administrative services of the bureau. All of our members also devote themselves to the object of “enhance the rescue capacity and protect citizen’s life and their property safety”; the new bureau building was also completed and opened on February 1st, 2010. Thus, a new page in the history of the fire-fighting in the city was discovered, and we should provide more comprehensive and effective services to citizens living in Taichung with advanced equipments and resources, well-trained professional human resources and establish facilities and systems like “centralize case reporting under alarm 119”, “auxiliary fire-alarm and rescue real-time imaging system” and “rescue information communication system”, and thus lead Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government to a brand new level!
