Yield to Ambulances; Pedestrians Stop, Look and Listen. When the Taichung City Government Fire Department 1st District HQs Fongyuan team is on duty for medical emergencies, the ambulance turns on its siren and alarm all the way to remind pedestrians to yield. However, when it came to the intersection of Fongyuan Boulevard and Ln. 92, Fengnan St., a student riding a bicycle across the road was not aware of the need to yield to ambulances. Fortunately, the driver practiced defensive driving on a red light to reduce speed and checked left and right to confirm the situation at the intersection. Through this action, the driver also considered the safety of other road users and avoided an accident from occurring. Regarding to the student who did not yield, the Fongyuan team proactively traced down the school after duty and provided the video as a case study for education. Hopefully, through the promotion by schools, our students will have the correct idea, not only on traffic safety, but also awareness of the urgent medical needs of patients in ambulances. The Taichung City Government Fire Department would also like to remind local citizens that when they hear ambulances or firetrucks’ sirens, please be sympathetic to yield so those in need can be helped promptly and everyone can live in a safe and peaceful environment.
