As technology advances, beauty-conscious women no longer have to go to hair salons to style their hair, because they can now do so in the comfort of their own home with the electric hairbrush. Since electric hairbrush makes hairstyling possible by converting electrical energy into heat energy safety is of the utmost importance when using the product. An example of fire caused by such product is provided below along with related preventive measures for the public’s reference.
【Summary of fire】
1. Time: 11:11, 2016//MM/DD
2. Venue: No. , Rd., Village, District, Taichung City
3. Building description: 4-story RC single family dwelling (rental suite)
【Fire incident report】
The fire was discovered by the student in the adjacent suite, who detected white smoke and the smell of smoke coming from suite 201. The building’s superintendent was immediately notified, and he called 110 to report the fire. After police offices from nearby precinct arrived at the scene and saw the white smoke billowing from the bed inside suite 201, dry powder fire extinguishers were used to extinguish the fire and the fire department was contacted. Upon arriving at the scene of fire, fire investigators found that part of the silicon mattress on the bed has been burnt and carbonized, and there were traces of powder from the fire extinguisher. In addition, there was an electric hairbrush on the floor that had been burnt and melted. An interview with the occupant of the suite revealed that after using the electric hairbrush that morning, she neglected to unplug it and switch off the power before leaving for class in a hurry. After ruling out ignition sources such as cigarette butt, mosquito coil and other potential causes of fire, careless use of the electric hairbrush was determined to be the most likely factor.
