The Wuqi District Youth Committee of Taichung City, China Youth Corps, has a long-standing history of actively participating in social charity activities. They are enthusiastic for public welfare, and grateful for the hard work of firefighters. This time, they turned the spirit of great love into practical actions and donated a batch of fire-fighting life-saving devices worth about NT$ 130,000 for use by the Qingshui Brnach of the Fourth Corps of the Fire Bureau. On August 16, a donation ceremony took place at the Qingshui Branch of the Bureau. Hou Shuhui, the wife of the committee chairman, made the donation on behalf of the committee. Chu Chinyuan, deputy captain of the Fourth Corps, received the donation on behalf of the Bureau, and a certificate of appreciation was presented to acknowledge the Youth Committee's commendable actions. The Fire Bureau stated that the fire scene is changing rapidly, and every second counts for rescue. Each firefighter has his own task in different positions. The life-saving device used by firefighters is an independent personal alarm safety system, a “stunt double” of firefighter at a fire scene. During a duty, a firefighter may be incapacitated for some reason. The life-saving device will automatically detect body movement, and sounds an alarm if no movement is detected for 30 seconds. People will follow the sound for rescue; in addition, for greater safety, the alarm can be activated manually and locates the position of the stranded firefighters, so as to facilitate the rescue of search and rescue crew. The Fire Bureau stated that government resources are limited but people’s power is infinite. It is very grateful for the Wuqi District Youth Committee for its support and affirmation of the fire protection work. Hopefully, this will encourage people and focus social resources on firefighting and disaster relief work. The donated firefighting life-saving devices is at the highest level, same as those used by European and American firefighters. This contribution significantly enhances the safety of firefighters involved in disaster relief work, marking a momentous step forward in ensuring their well-being.
