Canadian Trade Office in Taipei Visited Taichung City Disaster Response Center for International Interactions on Disaster Prevention and Protection

Ms. Hélène Tremblay and Deputy Director Ms. Min Ji Kim of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei visited the Taichung City Disaster Response Center and Disaster Rescue Command Center, warmly welcome by the Taichung City Government Fire Bureau on October 25. The Fire Bureau hoped that this visit would help strengthen international interactions, share disaster relief and response experience, and facilitate cooperation between the two parties in the field of international personnel safety. In addition to introducing the delegation to how the fire bureau responds to disasters and emergencies, Mr. Yang Chun-Kai, sr. engineer of the Bureau, also emphasized the importance of data and technology in the decision-making process. Ms. Tremblay said that she was very grateful to the Taichung City Fire Bureau for the warm welcome and rich visit arrangements. They were deeply impressed by city hall's professional knowledge in disaster management and response; this visit helps to understand disaster management and lays the groundwork for future cooperation between the two parties. The Fire Bureau explained that the Disaster Response Center is an important command and coordination center responsible for responding to natural and man-made disasters. The delegation first visited the Disaster Response Center and Disaster Rescue Command Center, including disaster warning and response, disaster rescue, emergency rescue, communication systems and disaster data analysis, to learn how the city hall responds to situations such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods to ensure the safety of citizens. They also observed the dispatch staffs’ quick response and how they deal with situations at hand, and how to the injured are evacuated to medical facilities effectively. Mr. Yang added that he really enjoyed the visit from the Canadian Trade Office and hoped that this visit improved the cooperation between both in disaster management and response. He believed that this event will improve the ability to respond to disaster challenges. During this visit, both the Trade Office and the Bureau had meaningful interactions and laid the foundation for future cooperation; the Fire Bureau looks forward to continuing to work with the Canadian Trade Office, share experiences in disaster and emergency responses and protect the lives and property safety of foreigners in Taiwan.
