The Taichung City conducted a large-scale 119 telephone traffic and system overflow drill to strengthen dispatch response capabilities.

The Fire Bureau of the Taichung City Government conducted a large-scale 119 telephone traffic and system overflow drill on November 24th. This initiative aimed to enhance the emergency response performance of Taichung City 119 in the face of various potential disasters. Referring to the spirit of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) from the United States Department of Homeland Security, the bureau simulated the occurrence of large-scale disasters, conducted extensive practical tests on 119 duty personnel, and conducted overflow drills on the telephone traffic to effectively respond to many diverse reporting and disposal of significant disasters.

The Fire Bureau indicated that Taichung City completed the construction of 119 automatic telephone traffic overflow systems by the end of 2022. They have added a new 119 overflow acceptance function for each jurisdictional brigade to prevent the influx of many reporting phone calls from the public due to power outages or significant disasters, making it difficult to receive timely reports. When many 119 calls enter the line, the command center will activate the overflow mechanism, allowing 119 calls to overflow to various jurisdictional brigades for reception and dispatch. Furthermore, the bureau encourages citizens to remain vigilant regarding emergency response to disasters and embrace fire prevention concepts in their daily lives. This proactive approach ensure that individuals can respond more orderly and effectively when disasters occur.

Fu-You Sun, the Director of the Fire Bureau, emphasized that protecting every citizen of Taichung is the city government's responsibility. Besides enhancing Taichung City's disaster prevention and relief capabilities, the fire bureau is also building a fire safety network at the forefront of rescue efforts. This drill simulates many reporting phone calls and accurately dispatches and dispatches fire trucks and ambulances according to standard procedures. These include rapid information collection, confirmation of the severity of the scene, effective command and scheduling, and other operations. At the same time, the bureau also simulated support contacts with other relevant institutions and departments during the exercise to ensure a seamless connection of the city's livelihood chain.
