Nursing home fire luckily causes no casualties – Fire Bureau calls for the installation of “119 fire reporting devices”

Safety and prevention first! A fire alarm was reported in a nursing home on Fumei Road in Houli District a few days ago. Due to the rapid deployment and effective rescue operations of the Fire Bureau, the fire could be extinguished within 15 minutes with zero casualties. The Taichung Fire Bureau points out that the “119 Fire Reporting Device” and automatic sprinkler system were crucial in enabling the firefighters to put outextinguish the fire within the shortest time possible. The device automatically notified the fire protection authorities in the early stages of the fire and the sprinkler system effectively controlled the incipient fire, keeping the damage to a minimum. The Fire Bureau further states that after being notified of a fire alarm in a nursing home on Fumei Road in Houli District at 18:57 on January 4, 2024, it immediately dispatched 11 fire trucks and 28 firefighters of the 5th Corps and the Houli Fire Station for rescue operations. After confirming the nursing home office as the main fire area, the dispatched vehicles and personnel were deployed and rescue operations were initiated. The fire was extinguished at 19:16 without any casualties. A total of 23 inmates and 5 caregivers had to be evacuated. The Bureau stresses that the rapid extinction of the fire within the shortest time possible without any casualties can mainly be attributed to the fast response of the nursing personnel, the effective rescue operations of the firefighters, and, most importantly, to the 119 Fire Reporting Device and automatic sprinkler system present in the nursing home. This device was activated by the detector of the automatic fire alarm system in the early stages of the fire and instantly reported the incident to the fire protection authorities. The fire was effectively controlled in its incipient stage through the automatic sprinkler system. The Fire Bureau therefore appeals to administrators of relevant sites to deploy and maintain fire protection equipment as required, submit regular maintenance reports, execute fire protection management tasks pursuant to applicable regulations, and utilize fireproof items with the ultimate goal of providing on-site personnel with a safe and hazard-free working and living environment.
