Returning to work: Taichung’s Fire Bureau urges caution regarding ash when setting off firecrackers as a symbol of good fortune

As the Chinese New Year holiday comes to an end, people prepare to return to work on February 15th, with many engaging in the traditional practice of setting off firecrackers to bring in good fortune. The Taichung City Government’s Fire Bureau noted that there have been numerous incidents of fires starting from smoldering ashes that were not fully extinguished as some people would sweep firecracker debris indoors. They urge the public to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions, such as avoiding connecting or stacking firecrackers, keeping a safe distance from fires, and setting them off in open areas to prevent accidents.
The bureau advises the public to refrain from setting off firecrackers to mark the resumption of work, if possible, and if it’s necessary, avoid connecting or stacking them. When lighting firecrackers, choose open areas free of flammable materials, and ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving. It's crucial to use firecrackers safely and responsibly. Violating relevant regulations will result in fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000, and in the case of accidents causing harm to people or property, criminal charges of endangering public safety shall apply. Please exercise caution.
