New building for the Fourth Corps' Dadu Branch opens: Mayor Lu pledges better environments for firefighters to safeguard community safety

The new building for the Dadu Branch of the Fourth Corps of the Fire Bureau, which received NT$79,086,000 in funding from the Taichung City Government, has been completed. At the opening ceremony on September 23, Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen said that the increasing population in Dadu has led to a greater demand for disaster and rescue services. The previous building, constructed in 1983, was shared by multiple agencies, including the police, fire bureau, and household registration office, and had become inadequate for the expanding team and equipment. The new building will now offer firefighters an improved work environment to better protect the local residents.
Mayor Lu noted that the Dadu Branch of the Fourth Corps is responsible for a coastal transportation hub characterized by numerous factories and a growing population in Dadu. This results in increased demands for disaster response, medical care, and rescue operations in the Dadu River area. Furthermore, the Dadu Plateau, located on the eastern side of Dadu District, gradually slopes toward the west and is rich in forested landscapes. In autumn and winter, strong winds heighten the risk of large wildfires. The Wangtian Oil Depot, which spans 193 hectares, is also situated in this region. The mayor expressed confidence that the new building will greatly enhance fire safety in the area.
Mayor Lu highlighted that the fire corps has three major functions: firefighting, disaster relief, and medical support. In response to community needs, the city government has constructed a new building for the Dadu Branch of the Fourth Corps. She thanked local representatives for their support in passing the budget, which ensured the construction went smoothly. Moreover, recognizing the importance of firefighting, Lu has prioritized the renovation of fire stations since taking office, with the Dadu Branch now complete, the Taiping Branch of the Third Corps recently finished, and the Shigang Branch currently being built, all aimed at strengthening Taichung's emergency response capabilities.
The Fire Bureau noted that the new Dadu Branch building is a three-story structure made of reinforced concrete, covering an area of about 1,748 square meters. The building includes an equipment room, garage, duty desk, offices, sleeping quarters, standby room, reception room, branch leader’s office, and squad leader’s office. They thanked the council for approving the budget, which enables the city government to not only renovate fire stations but also to periodically upgrade equipment in a timely manner. As a result, they have been improving various resources over the years, including hardware, vehicles, equipment, and personnel, to ensure quick and effective responses to future disaster relief efforts.
The Fire Bureau expressed gratitude to several organizations for their contributions, which include a high-roof ambulance (jointly donated by the Dadu Farmers’ Associations, Dadu Zhenyuan Temple, Dadong Jinsheng Temple, and Dadong Fude Temple), a fire command vehicle (donated by Stinco Enterprise Co., Ltd.), a LUCAS chest compression device (donated by Shan Been Jeou Industrial Co., Ltd.), an automated external defibrillator (donated by the Rotary Club of Taichung Wen-Hua), and fitness equipment (donated by Sinon Corporation). These generous donations have bolstered the Dadu Branch’s ability to respond to emergencies. The Bureau hopes these acts of kindness will inspire more community involvement in charitable initiatives.
During today's opening ceremony, attendees included Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen, Vice President of the Legislative Yuan Chiang Chi-chen, Legislator Yen Kuan-heng, Taichung City Council members Lin Hao-yu, Chang Chia-an, and Tseng Wei, Fire Bureau Director Sun Fu-yu, Transportation Bureau Director Yeh Chao-fu, Information Bureau Director Luan Chih-yi, and Chairman Lin Ju-chou of the Huangxi Academy Cultural and Educational Foundation. Additionally, district supervisors, village leaders, volunteer firefighters, and members of the women’s fire safety awareness team were present. Council members Wu Chiung-hua and Lin Meng-ling also sent representatives to join the event.
