To recognize district offices in Taichung for their exceptional efforts in carrying out the 2024 Resilient Taiwan: Large-Scale Typhoon and Earthquake Preparedness and Coordination Plan, the Taichung City Government held the 1st regular meeting of the 2025 Mobilization, War Preparedness, and Disaster Preparedness Joint Conference of Taichung City on March 24 at Taichung City Hall. Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen personally awarded certificates of recognition, commending the district offices for their outstanding performance and contributions to disaster preparedness.
According to the Fire Bureau, since 2023, Taichung City has been carrying out a five-year initiative, the Resilient Taiwan: Large-Scale Typhoon and Earthquake Preparedness and Coordination Plan, actively enhancing the preparedness and operations of disaster response centers, promoting mutual disaster relief support and regional joint defense mechanisms, and establishing collaboration models between the public and private sectors. Additionally, to prevent disruptions in public services during major disasters, the city government is gradually implementing a business continuity plan. Furthermore, annual training sessions are held for frontline district office staff to improve their disaster response skills. For two consecutive years, Taichung has been recognized by the Ministry of the Interior as a top-performing city for its outstanding performance in disaster preparedness.
The Fire Bureau highlighted that building resilient communities is a core aspect of the Resilient Taiwan: Large-Scale Typhoon and Earthquake Preparedness and Coordination Plan. In addition to advancing the first and second phases of Taichung’s Resilient Community Project, the city government is actively enhancing disaster resilience of Zhongxing Community in Taiping District and Jinping Community in North District as part of the third phase. Through collaboration with local volunteers and a variety of disaster preparedness initiatives, the city government aims to integrate disaster preparedness efforts into everyday community life, enhancing public awareness and emergency response capabilities. Going forward, the city government will continue strengthening its disaster response system and fostering closer collaboration between district offices and communities to protect lives and property, working toward a more resilient and livable city.
