Taichung Fire Bureau Team Demonstrates City Resilience Once Again, Wins the Best Team Award in the National High Pressure MCI Competition; Mass Casualty Response Capabilities Recognized

Organized by the Taiwan Development Association for Disaster Medical Teams, the “2025 6th Frontline Responders Mass Casualty Incident Skills Competition” was held from December 12 to 13 at West Lake Resortopia in Miaoli, bringing together elite frontline responders nationwide from fire services, emergency medical care, search and rescue, and medical fields to compete. The competition closely recreated real disaster scenes, simulating multiple compound disasters such as major traffic accidents, chemical disasters, earthquakes, and shooting incidents, comprehensively testing participating teams’ real-time decision-making, tactical application, on-site command, and teamwork under high-pressure conditions. With steady performance and strong coordination, the team from the Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government stood out among many strong teams and won the “Best Team Award,” once again demonstrating the top-tier capability of Taichung’s disaster rescue system. The Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that this competition adopted a multi scenario interlinked design. From scenario activation, incident reporting, establishment of the command structure, and resource deployment, to mass casualty triage and emergency treatment, all elements were centered on practical operations, and were combined with realistic scene setup, sound and lighting effects, and high pressure disruptive factors, greatly enhancing the sense of onsite realism. Facing highly complex and fast paced competition tasks, the Taichung representative team demonstrated the results of its solid routine training, with smooth process execution and accurate judgment. Team members had a clear division of responsibilities and a well defined command system, and the overall performance received unanimous recognition from the judges. The Fire Bureau stated that mass casualty incidents are a high risk, high complexity type of disaster, requiring the integration of emergency medical rescue, command, and cross agency resources within a very short period of time, and any error in any link may affect overall rescue effectiveness. This competition was not only a challenge of skills and physical fitness, but also a comprehensive test of the city’s disaster response resilience and command and control capabilities. The Taichung representative team was able to perform steadily under high pressure scenarios, fully demonstrating Taichung City’s maturity and professional standards in mass casualty incident response, initial command and control, and cross agency coordination. The Fire Bureau emphasized that the purpose of the competition is not only to win awards, but more importantly, through practical, combat oriented drills, to continuously enhance frontline personnel’s response capabilities when facing real disasters. In the future, it will continue to deepen disaster medicine and scenario based training, strengthen emergency medical professionalism and team collaboration, so that when Taichung City faces various types of sudden disasters, it can safeguard citizens’ life safety with the fastest response, the most stable command system, and the highest quality emergency medical services, and build a safer, more resilient city.
