Challenge of Network Development within Information Society

Ever since the beginning of the ‘80s in the last century, the development of information technology has been so rapid that the development of digital technology has, as we enter the 21st century, helped to stimulate another wave of “revolution for information society,” while the well-known Internet has, undoubtedly, played a most critical role. Most of all, several important network communities have, in sequence, showed up, and the influence of one of them, “Facebook”, has been on the increase day by day. Even President Ma cannot avoid hooking up to the trend and getting onto the bandwagon for the sake of popularity. By the end of January, he had openly set up his own “Facebook,” and within two days more than 250,000 had visited it in hopes of being close to public opinion. All of these have well proven that this wave of information revolution has, starting with the appearance of “the blog,” “twitter,” and “Facebook,” stimulated waves of networking trends, while the ever-renewing information revolution has been revolutionizing the mode of life of mankind. According to statistics released at the end of last year by the Institute for Information Industry (III) the number of network users in Taiwan has reached more than 16 million. Information released last year also indicated that the number of “Facebook” users worldwide has surpassed 600 million, so that we can see a new virtual kingdom has already formed, and it is quickly spreading throughout the world, with a strength of influence difficult to overestimate.
