2020 Year of the Rat – Prosperity and Wealth in Abundance – Traffic Control Measures for Tianjin New Year Street and Surrounding Roads

With the upcoming Chinese New Year, purchasing dried goods and new clothes are essential tasks before the Chinese New Year. In celebrating the Year of the Rat and to offer citizens one-stop dried goods shopping convenience, the Tianjin Rd. Clothing Outlet of Taichung’s New Year Street draws upon the theme of the 2020 Year of the Rat – Prosperity and Wealth in Abundance this year, bringing together food, beverage, entertainment, and recreation-related stalls to cater to the needs of shoppers. From 2020/1/9 (Thursday) to 1/23 (Thursday), the business hours of the New Year Street are 13:00-23:00 (weekdays) and 11:00-23:30 (weekends). Over the course of 15 days, the streets will be sealed off to accommodate the New Year Street so that people can avoid the pain of traffic congestion. Taichung City Police Department Second Precinct urges citizens to make use of public transport to reach the venue. Traffic control will be implemented during the following hours along Sec. 2 of Tianjin Rd. (from Zhongqing Rd. to Meichaun W. Rd., excluding Qingdao Rd., Shanxi Rd., Wenchang E. 1st. St., and Wenchang E. 2nd St.): starting from 15:00 on 2020/1/8 (one day before the event) to 11:00 on 1/24. During the said period, both sides of the roads and surrounding roads must remain clear of vehicles, and all cars and motorcycles will not be permitted to pass through the event venue. As people rush to purchase dried goods and present one another with Chinese New Year’s gifts, the roads are expected to be inundated with pedestrians and vehicles that will, in turn, lead to heavy traffic and congestion along the surrounding roads of the New Year Street. In light of this, the Second Precinct will be conducting traffic management operations during the event period of Tianjin New Year Street. Furthermore, promotional booths will be established at the scene to offer the public timely assistance, as well as raise awareness on public order, traffic safety, anti-pickpocketing and anti-fraud concepts. The precinct will also reinforce efforts in warning and clamping down on illegal parking in order to maintain orderly and smooth traffic flow.
