No Break for Security Patrols during the Pandemic; Law Enforcement by the Police to Reduce Gun Violence

The pandemic slowed down the re-operations of some businesses and factories and to avoid security threat posed by the pandemic, the Bureau worked on prevention of various crimes including robbery, snatching, loanshark harassment, gun shooting, investment frauds and online shopping frauds. The Bureau has pre-emptively prepared for possible security threats posed by the pandemic to demonstrate its determination to fight against crimes. There is no break for security patrols and no gap will be formed accordingly. The Bureau on March 1st seized 3 machinery guns and 111 bullets from the gangster group led by Wu ○○ and Mayor Lu especially sent Deputy Mayor, Chen Tzi-Ching, on her behalf to present rewards as the encouragement to boost police morale. To continue law enforcement for tracking down criminals, the Bureau started the "National Synchronized Crackdown Program" on March 16th while from April 6th, focus has been put on unlawful possession of weapons and restoration of firearms. Until April 26th, a total of 18 illegal gun parts (including 1 modular handgun, 9 restored handguns, 2 air guns and 6 gun simulators) and 128 bullets were seized by the police to effectively curtail sources of unlawful firearms and prevent crime. Avoiding guns possessed by gangs will help ensure security of the public and build a peaceful living environment. During the Program, Wufeng Station seized 2 restored handguns and 38 bullets possessed by the Vietnamese illegal migrant worker, Li ○○, and the follow-up investigation has been conducted to show the determination for tighter security control. Unlawful weapons crackdowns have always been one of the priority work for security protection and at the same time, Premier Su has shown his great support to the amendment of the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act. At present, the first reading of the amendment was passed by the Legislative Yuan to "curtail the source" (to control and manage gun operations) and "impose heavier penalties" (to regard the offense at the same level) at the same time. Unlawful possession of firearms will be strictly prohibited. The Bureau actively cracked down on unlawful possession of firearms to demonstrate "zero tolerance" concerning illegal use and possession of weapons. Security work will not have a break during the pandemic and continuously, the Bureau will request its affiliated agencies to adjust their security protection work from time to time when needed. Skills related to crack downs will be further honed to fight against crime and acts involving provocation of public power and disturbing social order will be strictly prosecuted to build a peaceful and safe environment for the public and to let citizens of Taichung live with peace of mind.
