Taichung City Police Department introduces AI technology-assisted law enforcement to prevent traffic accidents at the 5-way intersection of Sanmin Rd. and Chongde Rd. in the North District

Recently, the Line community is abuzz with the news headline "Beware of high-tech law enforcement at the asymmetric intersection of Sanmin/Chongde/Wuquan/Jinnan Rd; the technology was tested at the Wuquan-Chongde intersection, detecting over 200 traffic violations in 2 hours. The measure will be officially implemented on January 1 next year. "According to the Taichung City Police Department Traffic Police Corps, considering that the 5-way intersection of Sanmin/Chongde/Wuquan/Jinnan Rd. is one of the 10 most accident-prone intersections in Taichung City due to the complex roads, traffic, and illegal parking – on average more than 90 traffic accident occur every year – therefore, the police has installed ac multifunctional, AI technology-assisted law enforcement system at the intersection to clamp down on traffic infringements. The system detects traffic violations including running a red light, crossing double white lines, failure to make a hook left turn, failure to observe traffic signs, road markings, or traffic lights as well as motorcyclists driving through pedestrian crossings, etc. The system is currently being tested and law enforcement has yet to begin. The Traffic Police Corps will continue conducting system testing and relevant public awareness campaigns. After an appropriate date is chosen to commence law enforcement in 2021, it will be officially announced to the public. The Taichung Police Department Commissioner Yang Yuen-Ming reminds the public that with rapid advancements in technology, it will be progressively applied to traffic law enforcement to help improve various traffic violations and achieve the ultimate goal of minimizing traffic accidents. The police will continue to act as the competent law enforcer in order to uphold the safety of all road users, hoping to raise traffic safety awareness among the citizens.
