Starting from February 7th, Taichung City Police Department will launch the Traffic Violation Photo Inquiry Platform services and the applications for the traffic violation SMS service. Citizens can use the platform to access traffic violation photos online and confirm the violation by zooming in on the digital photos. In addition, after applying for the traffic violation SMS service on Taichung City Police Department’s website, citizens who have been reported for traffic violation by others or whose violation photos have been taken by the police fixed cameras or traffic-light cameras will receive the SMS immediately to avoid issues with due date.
Traffic Police Corps, Taichung City Police Department expressed that, currently, violators of any reported traffic violation case would receive a traffic ticket attached with violation photos by post. Nevertheless, as the photos are usually printed on traffic ticket, the resolution and size thereof are not as good as the original digital photos. Consequently, many citizens have appealed and Taichung City Police Department’s credibility of traffic law enforcement was affected.
Traffic Police Corps pointed out that the traffic violation inquiry service provides information on traffic violations, such as going over the line at red lights and crossing double yellow lines, and frequently the details of the photos can hardly be recognized. To allow citizens to check traffic violation photos, the Traffic Violation Photo Inquiry Platform has been established (and can be accessed through the QR code link on the traffic violation ticket). Starting from Feb 7th, citizens can check the digital file of traffic violation photos online and confirm the violation by zooming in on the offence photo.
Traffic Police Corps expressed that, due to the long reporting process, drivers whose traffic violation reported or revealed by fixed equipment usually receives the violation ticket few days after the date of offence, resulting in concerns of timeliness. By implementing the traffic violation SMS service, citizen who violates the traffic rules at the same place more than twice within five days, or who has been reported for more than three times, will receive a notification SMS from the police.
Traffic Police Corps points out that, as exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h is considered a serious speed violation, the warning notice “nine out of ten car accidents are caused by speeding and exceeding the speed limit will cause big harms” would be posted on the inquiry website. The purpose is to remind people to pay attention to the speed limit and do not go over the speed limit in order to drive home safely.
Commissioner of Taichung City Police Department, Tsai Tsan-po, said that, in regards to traffic violations, the police would continue to develop various convenient services and measures, but still hope that all citizens will abide by the traffic rules, as this is the only way to save time and to protect their own safety and the safety of others.
