With the quality grassland, running paths and exercise field, the animals in Taichung Animal Shelter are enjoying their sunbath while stretching out. The shelter residents even took a swimming trip just before the Dragon Boat Festival. To strengthen their muscle and muscular endurance, says Taichung Animal Shelter Sanitary Office, the buoyance of water not only reduces joint burdens, helps the dogs do some exercise to lose some weight, but also get in touch with new environment and meet new people.

As per Animal Protection Office, to improve shelter dogs’ health and take care of their needs, veterinarians and the trainers start with the diet control and exercise volume. This year the water rehab activity held at an animal friendly space is a good opportunity for the dogs to play in a new environment. Not only the buoyance of water reduces joint burdens, special designed toys also help the dogs to do exercise and lose weight. Seeing some first time swimmers gradually getting used to the water under the assistance of dog trainers, it is another mission completed.

To make Taichung a pet friendly city, City Government has seen 83 pet friendly spaces, including restaurants, vehicle spaces, accommodations, recreation area, shopping mall, attractions and playgrounds, all contribute a moment shared with owners and their beloved pets.
