Taichung Overpass – Greenification and beautification project for the corridor underneath the elevated railway

In order to elevate the overall quality of life for the citizens, as well as to develop a waterfront, comfortable, and ecological green environment, Construction Bureau of Taichung City Government launched the “Taichung Overpass – Greenification and beautification project for the corridor underneath the elevated railway” in 2015, where the corridor underneath the elevated railway was beautified and leisure parkways established to create a more sophisticated urban green network in metropolitan Taichung, thereby providing the citizens with a comprehensive recreational environment. The project focuses on the original railway corridor to integrate all green parkway systems using the theme of “Environmental Beautification and Recreational Bikeway”. In light of this, all the spaces vacated after the elevated railway was constructed were developed into spacious, comfortable pedestrian paths and bikeways. In catering to the need of the public, nighttime lighting has been installed along with street corner squares, parks, as well as sports facilities such as basketball courts and badminton courts. The project is divided into the 3 phases; phase 1 involves the areas extending from Jinde Road to Beihua Street (adjacent to Taiyuan Train Station), covering approximately 2.1km; phase 2 covers 7.2km, starting from the intersection between Beitun District and Tanzi District to Fengyuan Station; phase 3 covers 2.92km, starting from Wuquan Road to the south side of Daqing Station.
