Instant Traffic Information Network established by the Department of Traffic, Taichung Municipal Government will open to the public officially before July 15 (2005-06-23)

In order to provide real-time traffic and parking information for road users, the Department of Transportation, Taichung Municipal Government, plans to establish the Instant Traffic Information Network of Taichung City to offer the traffic conditions in the city, on the freeway, and on the expressway connecting Taipei City, Taichung City, and Kaoshiung City. It will be opened to the public officially before July 15. In addition, the Department of Transportation is going to set up the parking information guiding system before the end of July. It welcomes all people to check for information anytime. Mr. Lin Liang-tai, the Director of the Department of Transportation, expresses that since 2003 the Taichung Municipal Government has been collaborating with the Department of Transportation to implement the project “e-Transportation•Intelligent Transportation Control System”, a sub-project of “Challenge the National Development Project 2008.” With the collaboration between the Department of Transportation (responsible for fund subsidizing), Taichung Municipal Government (responsible for collaborating in fund raising), and the Institute of Transportation, MOTC (responsible for technical assistance), in 2004 they have been working jointly to finish the first GPRS wireless traffic sign control system and the prototype of traffic control center of Taichung City in Taiwan. In addition, they plan to install on-site equipment, such as traffic sign control devices, vehicle detecting devices, road monitoring camera, changeable information notice board, etc. As the task of this stage is completed, they endeavor to promote Taichung City into a model city with the installation of traffic control system.
