In order to solve the hygiene problem of Taichung’s commercial district and night market surroundings, the Environmental Protection Bureau has requested that rubbish bins be set up.(2005-07-11)

In order to thoroughly solve the hygiene problem of dirty surroundings and the pile up of rubbish around Taichung City’s commercial district and night markets, Environmental Protection Bureau Chief Li Li-De announced during the controller’s meeting on July 11th that all management committees of businesses in the commercial district and night markets should set up rubbish bins, and maintain the cleanliness of within 2 meters of the rubbish bin’s surroundings. This is aimed at commercial districts that are poorly maintained at the moment, and these areas have been given one month to improve. Mayor Jason Hu later expressed that although these rubbish bins are to be set up by management committees, the Environmental Protection Bureau would still carry out the final responsibilities and randomly check up on these situations. Taichung City’s messiness is the responsibility of the Environmental Protection Bureau as well as the responsibility of the Mayor.
