The Supau 2005 TBIM Sports Drink Taiwan Boulevard International Marathon took place on October 9. This competition is into its 24th year history, but this is the first year that it was held as an international marathon. For the sake of fairness, the organizers have used microchip timers to keep time, a method often seen in international competitions, so that there would not be any disputes about starting and finishing times. After two hours of competition, the 42km competition winners emerged. The champions were Ugandan male runner Chumba Patrick and Ethiopian female runner Meseret Kotu.
The 42km men's competition winner from Uganda, Chumba Patrick expressed that there were quite a few difficult uphill tracks in this year's competition. He had intended to finish the race within 2 hours and 14 minutes, but in the end he completed the course in 2 hours 21 minutes and 17 seconds. Although his goal was not reached, he was still very happy to have gained the championship. It was also Patrick's first visit to Taichung; he had a very good impression of the city and hopes to come back next year. And under the guidance of Taichung city Deputy Mayor Xiao JiaQi, he even learnt how to say, "I love Taichung" in Chinese.
