For the 10th anniversary since the moving-in of the vegetable and fruit market, the celebratory ceremony was held on July 29th(2007-07-29)

  Taichung City Vegetable and Fruit Market has been in its current location on Chungching Rd. for 10 years and has enjoyed profit growth during the past decade. On July 29th, the celebration activity was initiated where local elites and political representatives who contributed much in realizing the move, were invited to participate in the event. According to Deputy Mayor Hsiao, the current market occupies about 7 hectors, which is larger than the fish market, and keeps surging in terms of trades and businesses to provide residents with the most fresh and luscious vegetables and fruits, and serve as the best vegetable and fruit marketing place. 

  The home of the Market was originally in the Second Market on Yanzi St., where insufficient space induced a decline in business. Former Mayor Lin, PoJong described the embarrassing business condition of the Market at that time, and mentioned the words often heard, “Salary 70% and Pension Fund in Debit”. Luckily, the current lot on Chungching Rd. was found and fully supported by the city council; however, compensation a moving more than 100 graveyards on it and new construction of the Market demanded subsidies from the central government. After hard work and frustrations, the new settlement was completed, and business surged in subsequent years to benefit producers, underwriters, and consumers.

  In its current location, the Market has established a decent trading system through openness, fairness, and impartiality, and primarily applied the computerized audition system to exclude human interference, consider the rights of supplier and demander and providing a rule for both to follow. Current, the marketing company is further building up the license system for agricultural products, enhancing the pesticide residue test, and promoting GAP labels to provide a reliable environment for consumers’ purchasing and intake.

  The marketing company requires farmers to classify and wrap their products, performs the supply-demand adjustment to stabilize prices, and promotes diversification and multiplication of products to meet the demands of underwriters. Trading amounts of the Market have gradually grown, proved by the numbers, 1,988,385 kilograms for vegetables and 14,836,567 kilograms for fruits this June, compared to 1,527,553 kilograms and 11,710,030 kilograms respectively for vegetables and fruits last June.
