Recycle your "four large appliances" to win prizes

To encourage people to recycle their “four large appliances”, the Environmental Protection Administration of Executive Yuan is now holding an online promotion campaign. Citizens who buy any of the four large home appliances (namely TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners) to replace the old ones can enjoy free recycling service and may win a prize. When surrendering your waste appliance(s) to your vendor, remember to obtain the third slip of the four disposal receipts and then enter its number and the number of your purchase invoice into the Resource Recycling Website (http://recycle.epa.gov.tw) of EPA Fund Management Board. A simple act like this will qualify you to the lucky draws held from March 15 to September 15 every year.Liu Bang-yu (劉邦裕), Director-general of Environmental Protection Bureau, said that there are about 630 vendors of four large appliances in Taichung City, including discount stores, department stores, electric appliance wholesalers, electric appliance retailers, e-shops, and mail-order traders. The Environmental Protection Bureau has already issued disposal receipts and stamps to them before April 30 and requested them to offer free trafficking service for the waste appliances, which however does not include the use of large machinery, engineering or dangerous construction to remove and tear down the appliances. The Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government pointed out that in accordance with Article 19 of Waste Disposal Act, the Environmental Protection Administration of Executive Yuan promulgated on December 30, 2010 the scope, facilities and specifications of recycling activities for the electric appliance vendors. The regulations, which were amended on March 1, 2012 and have come into effect since April 1, 2012, demand vendors selling four large appliances should take the initiative to inform consumers of their rights and provide free recycling services. Violators will be warned five times within the first three months and then fined NT$ 60,000 to NT$ 300,000. For those citizens who simply want to recycle their waste home appliances without purchasing any new items of the "four large appliances”, please call the local cleaning team to make an appointment for the fixed-point removal at the agreed time, or hire a refuse disposal operator to serve you.The Environmental Protection Bureau urges citizens to visit the campaign website at http://recycle.epa.gov.tw. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call the Resource Recycling Hotline at 04-22294025 or log in the Resource Recycling Website at http://recycle.epb.taichung.gov.tw/.
