Lin Shi-Chang (林士昌), Speaker of Taichung City Council, donated NT$600,000 to "food banks" for Wurih, Dadu, and Longjing districts. The donation may benefit approximately 300 families. The donation ceremony was held on the square in front on Dadu District Office on the morning of September 28. Shao Xiao-Xing (邵曉鈴, wife of Mayor Hu) and Deputy Mayor Shyu Jong-Shyoung (徐中雄) accepted the donation on behalf of our citizens.

Speaker Lin called for more civil and social organizations and private enterprises to support food banks and take care of disadvantaged families. At the scene, hot food and some supplies were offered together with other free services, such as massage, haircuts, health education counseling, and social welfare advocacy. A photo exhibition was also held to show achievements that food banks have made in the past, so that people can better understand their operations and promotional results.

A 36-year-old new immigrant from Vietnam living in Dadu District, Arshui (阿水) has been receiving help from food banks for a long time. She said, "I divorced my husband seven years ago because of domestic abuse. In the past few years, I have been working at a factory to support my kids and pay for house rent. I once felt frustrated and even desperate. Luckily, many caring organizations and food banks offer their helping hands to me. I feel much better and gain back my smile now. My life improves gradually thanks to those caring people.”

Social Affairs Bureau hopes that the charity act of Speaker Lin can summon up more people, non-governmental organizations, and private enterprises to make contributions to food banks, so that vulnerable families can receive more care and help in this warm and happy Taichung City.
