The recent oil scandal is affecting the concern of citizens regarding food safety. The Director of Taichung Environmental Protection Bureau, Yu-Bang Liu stated that people can recycle used cooking oil or poor quality oil that they need to dispose of by keeping it in the original bottle or oil drum (plastic or iron) and handing it in to the recycling truck of EPA; the EPA have increased the collection points in all districts.
　　Director Liu expressed that EPA has been providing a cooking oil recycling service for a while; 54 tons of cooking oil was collected from January to September this year and delivered to the recycling plant for biodiesel material or DIY green soap to meet the purpose of recycling. Director Liu reminded citizens to not pour waste cooking oil into the kitchen sink or drainage system in order to avoid an accumulation of oil which would later form lipid lumps, resulting in clogged drainage systems and bad odors, as well as increasing the risk of attracting cockroaches and mice, both serious threats to environmental hygiene. In addition, the arbitrarily disposal of waste cooking oil could result in a fine of NTD 1,200~ NTD 6,000 based on the Waste Disposal Act.
　　With immediate effect, citizens can collect all waste cooking oil and poor quality oil into the same bottle and pass it to the recycling truck or cleaning team of all districts; it is suggested that the original bio bottle or non-fragile container be used in order to avoid oil leakage. The Bureau reminds citizens that non-cooking oil including waste motorcycle oil and lubricating oil will be recycled by motorcycle stores, vehicle repair shops and gas stations but it must not be mixed with waste cooking oil.
